Here is what we did today:
Choice Time: With the Holiday program fast approaching, we used Choice Time to practice the songs and rhymes we will be performing. Since that went so well, there was enough time left over to play with the parachute too.
Circle Time: The story, "Counting To Christmas" was read to the children. This book gave the children an opportunity to count all the way to 25! That is a lot of counting!
Snack Time: On Monday, Max brought apples and milk for snack. Thanks Max! On Tuesday, Evan brought frosted shredded wheat and milk. Thank you Evan!
Center Time: Painting at the easels and special coloring pages were available at the art center.
All of the other center activities were available at as well.
Hope to see everyone at the Christmas program at 10:30. Don't be late! (It doesn't last too long so you may miss it if you are late!) Also remember to bring a plate of cookies to share with everyone afterwards.

December 10/11, 2014 Wednesday/Thursday
Here is what we did today:
Choice Time: The 3 choices offered the children included: tabletop easels, a pretend mouse house activity, and a game called, "Jump the River."
Circle Time: The children were read the story, "Merry Christmas, from Biscuit." In the story, a girl made a present to give her grandparents. It was a picture/scrapbook of her puppy Biscuit. Because he was a puppy, he was always doing something he shouldn't like eating the ornaments off of the tree, chewing the music to the song they were singing, getting into the Christmas stockings, and eating the cookies set out for Santa. They loved Biscuit anyway! This gave us an opportunity to talk about the different pets the children have and some of the things they have done that were a little naughty like the dog in the story. We also practiced our songs for the upcoming program.
Snacks: The children made their snacks today: tortilla/cheese rollups. On Wednesday, we celebrated Riley's birthday with a brownie. Happy Birthday Riley! On Thursday, we celebrated Aleena's birthday. Happy Birthday Aleena!
Center Time: All of the centers were open and painting at the easels was available.
Remember the program is at 10:30 next Wednesday/Thursday. Hope to see you all then!

It was good to see everyone at conferences this week! The school year is going fast!
Here is what we did today:
Choice Time: On Wednesday, it was nice enough to go outside. There were 2 big boxes for the children to play with and some nerf balls to use to throw and run around with. On Thursday, it was too cold and wet to go outside so we stayed inside and chose between tumbling, a game called "Jump the River," and cutting with scissors.
Circle Time: We read the story, "How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?" It was a good one to use to start a discussion about proper table manners and how they can make grownups smile. Manners matter, as we say in preschool!
Snack Time: On Wednesday, Audrey brought apples, Wheat Thins, and chocolate milk. Thank you Audrey! On Thursday, Aleena brought graham crackers and juice for snack. Thank you Aleena!
Center Time: New "kinetic" sand replaced the corn in the discovery table. Also, new reading benches replaced our mats that were in the book area. Painting was available at the easels and all of the other centers were open for the children as well.
Remember: next Wednesday and Thursday is our field trip to HyVee on Utica Ridge and 53rd.
Also, if you send in a 4x6 picture of your family, we will put it in a photo book for the children to look at in the reading center.

On Monday, Kristin Winkler was our parent helper. Thank you Kristin!
Here is what we did:
Choice Time: On Monday, since the weather continues to be nice, we continue to go outside. Balls were available along with all of the other choices to play with in the yard. Circle Time: We read the book, "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons." It was a book on cd. It had a catchy little tune that repeated itself throughout the story. In the story, Pete lost all of his buttons off of his coat but did not cry because he still had one button left.....his belly button.
Snack Time: On Monday, Junior brought graham crackers and juice for snack. Thank you Junior! On Tuesday, Sadie brought wheat thins, cheese, and apple juice. Thank you Sadie!
Center Time: A group painting was done using vegetables. It will be hanging up in the hallway when it dries so be sure to take a look!

Happy Halloween!
Choice Time: On Wednesday, Kristin Winkler helped out the class. Thank you Kristin!
The children did a little fashion show with their costumes. Very cute! On Wednesday, because they had their costumes on, we stayed inside for choice time. Their three inside choices were: musical instruments played to Halloween music, mini-magnadoodles, and marble race tracks. On Thursday, because of having to coordinate party day with the kindergarten readiness class, there was no choice time and there was a longer center time.
Circle Time: We read the book "Where Is My Mummy?" It was a book on tape.
Center Time: No painting at the easels but everything else was available.
Party Time: On Wednesday, the children had frosted cookies and juice served on festive tablecloths and plates and napkins. Thank you to Riley and Lyla for providing the snack on Wednesday! On Thursday, the children had pumpkin shaped rice krispie treats and clementines with pumpkin faces on them. They also had juice boxes with monster faces on them. Thank you to Griffin and Anna L for providing the snack on Thursday!
Afterwards, the children went to the party room where they could choose to play Ghost Bowling, Halloween Tattoos, Halloween scented Playdough, and Ghost Bean Bag. Gretchen Smith planned all of the games and supplied all the materials. Thank you Gretchen for all of your hard work! And Thanks to all the parents and family members who came to the party and assisted the children - we really could not have done it without you!
Upon leaving the party on Wednesday, the children all received a candy bar wrapped up as a ghost which was provided by Ella. Thank you Ella for that! On Thursday, the children all received treats from Anna B, Blake and Cohen. Thank you to Anna B, Blake and Cohen for that!

It was a flannel board story that had 2 feet go "clomp, clomp," a pair of pants go "wiggle, wiggle," a shirt that went "shake, shake," a pair of gloves go "clap, clap," a hat that went "nod, nod," and a pumpkin head that went "Boo, Boo." When all of these pieces were put together, they made something special. Ask your children what that was. (A scarecrow.)

October 22, 23, 2014 Wednesday/Thursday
A chilly start to the day!
Here is what we did:
Choice Time: We went outside for Choice Time, despite it being cold. Some of the children forgot a jacket so we loaned them one if that was the case. Several suggestions for ways to stay warm were discussed: put your hands in your sleeves or your pockets, rub your hands together, blow on your hands, or if you are really cold, run around the playground. Know that we will go outside for as long as the weather permits so dress your children warmly! It's good to get outside in the fresh air!
Circle Time: We read the story "Big Green Monster." It is a story that was familiar to several of the children. Each page adds a part to the monster until he is complete and then each page takes a part away until the monster is gone and the story is done.
Snack Time: On Wednesday, Shresta brought Goldfish crackers and milk. Thank you Shresta!
On Thursday, Landon brought muffins and milk for snack. Thank you Landon!
Center Time: Painting on the easel with brushes and pumpkin shaped cookie cutters was available along with all of the other usual center activities.
On Wednesday, Kristin Winkler came and worked as our parent helper. Thank you Kristin!
Thank you to all who have returned their forms! Your attention to our requests is so appreciated!
Remember next week, the Halloween parties are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. Parents are invited to come and help us celebrate at 10:30.
Have a great weekend and see you all soon!

Snack Time: On Monday, Riley brought juice and Cheeze-its for snack. Thank you Riley! On Tuesday, Kaiden brought granola bars and apple juice. Thank you Kaiden!
Free Play Time: The house keeping center had a few new things in it: cash registers and shopping carts. Pirate masks were available at the art table to decorate if so desired.

This has been an event-filled week! Here is what we did today:;
Today was picture day. Jerry, the photographer with the help of Mrs. Lenbauer took everyone's picture individually and as a group. Children were pulled out of the class 3 at a time so consequently, things were missed when they were having this done. Also, our schedule had to be changed so the snack could be eaten last.
Choice Time: We stayed inside to play so that special outfits and hairstyles would stay nice for pictures. The three choices offered were: cutting strips of paper with scissors, using tweezers with pom poms, and musical hugs (a game like musical chairs only everyone is a winner in the end!)
Circle Time: On Wednesday, one of the children (Ben) brought in a butterfly to share with the class. He left it for the Thursday class to see too. Thank you Ben! We read the story "The Very Lazy Ladybug." We acted out the story after we read it by pretending to be sleeping and then waking up and learning to fly when the elephant sneezed.
Snack Time: Landon brought us Despicable Me graham crackers and Apple Juice on Wednesday. Thank you Landon! On Thursday, Cohen brought gold fish crackers, teddy grahams, and apple juice. Thank you Cohen!
Center Time: All of the centers were open but no painting day due to pictures being done.
Remember: important papers went home in the backpacks today. Please check them out! It was good to see everyone last night at the Open House! Have a good week!

An important milestone today!
Today your children went to their first day of preschool by themselves! That's a big deal!
Here is what they did:
Choice Time: The children played outside today. The water table, the pump, and the sand table were all available in addition to the other toys.
Circle Time: We sang "Rise and Shine." We danced to the song "Stop and Go!" and we read the book "I Love School!" The book was short and sweet and was about all of the activities available at school.
Snack Time: Teddy Grahams and Apple Juice was served. The children learned they needed to be excused from the table, push their chair under the table, throw away their napkin and put their juice glass in the bin before they could play.
Free Play time: All of the centers were open. If a child painted, that picture will be sent home next time since it needed to dry.
One of the important rules we covered today was "Walk Not Run." It helps to make moving as a group from one place to another so much better.
Thank you to everyone for all of your support of your children and helping them adjust to preschool.
Thank you also for finishing up your paperwork and turning it in.
Reminder that the dates have been set for the Pumpkin Patch field trip: Yellow Group is Tuesday, October 7 and Green Group is Wednesday, October 8. Hope you can all make it!

Welcome to School Everyone!
It was good to see all of the children! It is sure to be a year full of new, wonderful learning opportunities for everyone! I look forward to getting them started on their learning journey!
